Embracing an LGBTQIA+ identity within a religious community can often feel like walking into a lion's den wearing a rainbow cape. The clash between religious teachings and LGBTQIA+ acceptance can create an environment where individuals like John Kenn Remollo are made to feel like outsiders. Rejection and marginalization become all too common, as religious communities struggle to find a place for those who challenge traditional views on gender and sexuality. John Kenn, like many others, has faced the challenge of navigating this space, seeking acceptance while staying true to his authentic self.

John Kenn's journey began in 2021 with a period of self-exploration and reflection. Like many individuals, he questioned himself and searched for answers within himself. This involved a deep dive into understanding his feelings and desires, as well as examining societal norms and expectations.

“Yung tipong papasok ka palang sa simbahan sasabihan ka na ng uy diba ano ka, bakla ka bat ka andito? Anong ginagawa mo dito?” Kenn uttered. Within his religious community, John Kenn encountered the harsh realities of stigma and prejudice that many LGBTQIA+ individuals face. Despite his unwavering faith and genuine love for his community, he experienced judgment and criticism simply because of his sexual orientation and gender identity. People from his religious community judge him and question him. However, John Kenn found strength within himself to rise above these challenges, refusing to let the judgments define his worth or shake his faith in his personal journey with God.

John Kenn understands that there are individuals who may criticize or judge him based on their religious beliefs or personal biases. However, he firmly believes that prayer can bring understanding, acceptance, and compassion. Instead of harboring resentment towards those who judge him, he chooses to pray for them wishing for their hearts and minds to open up to the diversity and beauty of the LGBTQIA+ community. “Masakit man minsan, I learned to adapt to it kase walang mangyayari kung papatulan ko, sabihin na natin nagkakasala na sila at the same time papatungan mo rin ng another pagkakasala, wala ding mangyayari. Ang ginawa ko nalang ay ipag pray sila," he explained.

“Kahit anong sabihin nila, hindi nun mababago ang paniniwala at pananampalataya ko sa Panginoon'', Remullo added. For him, faith has always been deeply connected to his personal values. Despite the struggles and conflicts he faced, he recognized the importance of love, compassion, and acceptance.

His unwavering faith in God remains unshaken, regardless of what others may say. He stands firm in his belief, understanding that the opinions and criticisms of others cannot change his deep-rooted faith. It takes a strong conviction to remain steadfast in one's religious beliefs, especially when faced with doubts or skepticism from others.

John Kenn's statement highlights his resilience and his unyielding commitment to his faith, demonstrating a profound understanding that his relationship with God is a deeply personal and unwavering bond. John Ken's journey has been a rollercoaster ride filled with both highs and lows. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, he has encountered numerous challenges and obstacles along the way.

The judgments and prejudices he has faced from society and from his religious community have often been disheartening, but John Kenn has never let them define him. His personal journey as an LGBTQIA+ member and a religious person is a tale of triumph over adversity. It is a story that teaches us the importance of acceptance, understanding and the power of staying true to oneself.
